Q. I have never taken a yoga class, where do I begin?

A. Do not worry; it is never too late to begin your yoga practice. I would recommend starting slowly and practicing patience. Try taking a few basic or open level classes to set a foundation. When you first start out, you should try to take classes frequently because the more you concentrate your focus, the easier is for your body to form an impression in its memory.

Q. I am not that physically fit, do I need to be in top condition for this type of yoga?

A. Power Yoga is definitely a challenging, strength and endurance building system, but you do not need to come to the Yogaspot fully buffed. The great news is that you will become incredibly strong and toned in just a short time. You will be taught modifications so that you can take the whole class and stay in the ”flow”. The secret is to find balance in your body…. strengthening your entire body evenly. Unlike traditional training programs like running or weight training, which work only parts of the body, yoga works every major muscle group sychronistical. And that’s only part of it!!!!! The best part is that it is workout for your mind. The breath work bridges the mind to body. This will open up tremendous new worlds for you as you enter your energetic body where your inner strength lies.

Q. Why do you turn up the heat?

A. Practicing yoga in a hot room gives a sense of surrender and softness much like relaxing in a tropical paradise, only you are not laying down. Your movement and deep stretches will produce buckets of sweat which will actually help your body rid itself of toxins that are stored in the muscles. You will feel cleansed from the inside and completely invigorated. Remember to drink plenty of water to replenish your fluids. Heat increases flexibility and helps you burn more calories.

Q. Will your power yoga help me lose weight?

A. Absolutely. This form of yoga is equal to going for a run or going to the gym in terms of level of a workout. You may find that you love it (and yourself), and so much that you drop your other workouts completely.
If you don't want to drop your other workouts, you will find that yoga positively compliments your other routines.

Q. Do I need to be flexible to practice yoga?

A. Absolutely not. If you have noticed that you are tight and not flexible, that is an excellent place to start. You need yoga! You will become more flexible over time ..... guaranteed.

Q. There are so many yoga places popping up these days, why choose Yoga Spot?

A. The Yoga Spot is a small, intimate environment where a new or experienced practitioner gets individual attention. Our classes change each time so you will always be learning something new. Our teachers practice what they teach, and even take each others classes! There is such great synergy among students and teachers.

Q. How often should I come to class?

A. When you are first starting out, you should come at least 3 times a week. It is recommended that you come more often, up to 6 times a week to see permanent changes in your body, mind, and in your life!

Q. What should I bring?

A. Bring a mat if you have one. You can rent a mat for $1. Make sure your drink water before you come, and bring a water with you. We do sell bottled water for $1.
